The Machinist - Draft Lyrics

I've been working on a whole bunch of songs lately, and I've decided to share a little bit of the material as it develops.

I've got some pretty mixed feelings about this.

Most times, it takes me months to write a song. Unfortunately, I'm not blessed with the ability to sit down and write sixteen bars in an hour like some MCs. For me, going from the basic idea to a finished song is a long and grueling process. The material I finish with may bear little resemblance to the original ideas and lyrics I began with. I usually start with some really rough ideas and gradually develop them.

So, when I post draft lyrics or ideas, they are most likely going to be raw and unfinished.

It can be a bit daunting to let someone else see your work in its most raw state. But, on the other hand, reading blogs like Ivens' makes me wish I could find out more about the process other musicians and artists go through in creating their work.

So, here it is... I'm documenting my process... If you can be bothered reading this blog, I hope you find it an interesting insight into the way I create music.

Anyways, here's something I scribbled down the other day for a track I'm working on called "The Machist". All or part of this may or may not make it into the final track.

I'm the machinist
The dragon of this thunderous cavern
Of lust, smoke, and dust
I sit staunch over my mountain

Of gold and gems
Trinkets of fallen men
With withered souls
I turn riches to coal
